Florida ORI Numbers for Level 2 Background Checks
Updated: Aug 25
When ordering a Level II background check in FL you must have an ORI number. Once the fingerprinting professional completes your background check, they send it over to the Florida Agency associated with the ORI number.
What is an ORI number?
An ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) number is a 9-digit code typically made up of 2 characters identifying the state or agency, followed by 6-7 additional characters. This code is crucial for identifying the agency or organization requesting a background check and ensures results are routed correctly.
**Use only the ORI supplied or confirmed by the requesting agency, licensing board, employer, or program.
What's an Example of an ORI Number?
For example, the ORI for the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) is EAHCA020Z, while the ORI for the Department of Children and Families, General (DCF General) is EDCFGN10Z. Many ORI numbers follow a similar structure, often beginning with "FL" and ending with a letter such as “Z.” The abbreviation of the agency (like AHCA, DCF, or DOH) is typically embedded within the code.
**You need to know your ORI number to schedule any Level II background check for the FDLE.
What is a VECHS number?
VECHS (Volunteer & Employee Criminal History System) numbers are unique to the VECHS program, commonly used by schools, daycares, and similar organizations. These numbers direct background check results to the requesting company via the FDLE.
VECHS numbers starting with “E” are for employees.
VECHS numbers starting with “V” are for volunteers.
How Do I Find My ORI number?
As the applicant, the employer should provide you the ORI number. If you're an employer and don't know the ORI number, you will have to contact one of the agencies below to confirm which one you need.

Important: An ORI is a 9-character Originating Agency Identifier used to route fingerprint results to the correct authorized agency or program. This is a reference guide—not authorization to choose an ORI. Always use the ORI listed in the instructions from your employer, licensing board, agency, or program. An incorrect ORI can delay results or require a new fingerprint submission.
